Original drummer Evans then departed from the band at the end of 2005. Collective Soul established their own label, El Music Group, prior to releasing Youth in 2004. About two weeks after Childress' departure, Collective Soul released Seven Year Itch, a compilation of their greatest hits between 19. The band released Blender in 2000, their fifth and final album with the original starting lineup, as lead guitarist Childress left the band in 2001. The album's first single, " Heavy", spent a then record-breaking 15 weeks on the top spot of the Mainstream Rock charts.
The band released a fourth studio album, Dosage, in 1999. Although not as successful in sales as their previous two albums, Disciplined Breakdown contained two No. 1 Mainstream Rock chart hits with " Precious Declaration" and " Listen". About two years later, Collective Soul released Disciplined Breakdown. The singles " December", " The World I Know", and "Where the River Flows" each reached No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock charts. Considered by Ed Roland to be the band's true debut album, Collective Soul spent 76 weeks on the Billboard 200 charts and went triple-platinum, becoming the band's highest-selling album. The album was then re-released in 1994 by the major label Atlantic Records thus, "Shine" became a national hit as it peaked at No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock and No. 4 on the Mainstream Top 40 charts.Ĭollective Soul released a self-titled album in March 1995. Collective Soul released their Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid album on the independent label Rising Storm Records in 1993. Now based in Atlanta, the group consists of lead vocalist Ed Roland, rhythm guitarist Dean Roland, bassist Will Turpin, drummer Johnny Rabb, and lead guitarist Jesse Triplett. Ed Roland continues to grow as a songwriter, and Dosage is another successful set of radio-friendly pop/rock that, while far from radical, is a worthwhile listen.Collective Soul is an American rock band originally from Stockbridge, Georgia. This doesn't mean that Dosage is a weak effort, though, as there is still more than enough here to please fans. Only a few of the ballads (among them the hit "Run" from the film Varsity Blues and the mid-tempo "No More, No Less") manage to leave any lasting impression, and the majority of the up-tempo rockers seem like filler.
Kicking off with the upbeat "Tremble for My Beloved" and "Heavy," the album quickly slows down and fails to reignite. Collective Soul has always been best when performing a mix of ballads and harder material, and Dosage holds true to that formula, although the ballads (which are not quite as strong as the ballads on previous albums) rule this album. While the singles "Run" and "Heavy" are two of the band's biggest hits in years, much of this album seems to sound slightly more tired than Collective Soul's recent efforts. Dosage is a step backward into familiar territory, and it invites mixed results. After the disappointing sales of Disciplined Breakdown, Collective Soul made a move back to the sound that was so successful on their self-titled sophomore effort.
